Today in math we played a math game and our time sheet but we don't have to turn it in this time. Remember tomorrow were going to Flint. For are special we have Spanish. For writing we  persuasive letters.  We had Spanish and we talked about Latin american holidays. We had buddies today because we did not have buddies last Friday.

Today for morning meeting we did ball toss and tic toc boom. Also we did statues in the garden. Today we had music. Finished are book clubs. For are specials we have music and art. Are wrapping party is today. For math we did area and perimeter. In writing we did persuasive letters. Pajama day and sing along Friday.

In readers workshop, we had our book club.  Day 10, the summary, is due tomorrow. For math we did area and perimeter.In writing we're typing on our  persuasive letters. They are due on Wednesday .In science we learned how a light bulb makes energy. Then we had media and PE.

This morning we had a field trip at the Bloomfield Hills Nature Center.  It was all about how the Earth is changing because of glaciers, meteors, earthquakes, and tsunamis.  We saw many cool crystals! We saw crystals through a microscope.  After, we had science we had an introduction to energy.  We continued working with our book club and have Day 9 tonight for homework.  Then we had Spanish before going home.

In Social study's we learned about European american and some African american settlement. For Spanish we listened to billy la bufanda and learned about clothing. In math we did area and perimeter. For writing we did persuasive letters. Today for morning meeting we did make up your own handshake and we did I like my neighbor who.In math we did area and perimeter and we also had a timed test. For reading we did our book club. For writing we did our persuasive letters. For science we finished presenting our mini research projects. Then we had media and PE. Day 6 of  our book club and a math sheet are homework.  Mystery vocab sentences are due on Thursday.

December 10th 2018

Today Mrs.Herbert came and we read Each Kindness and wrote down a kind thing to do.Also tomorrow try to give a compliment to as many people as you can tomorrow.Today we had Spanish.In math we started multiplication.  Tonight we have to finish our multiplication sheet.  We also got our test back. In writing we are working on our persuasive letters.  In Science we presented our mini research projects.  In readers workshop we talked in our book clubs about inferences.  Tonight we have to complete day 5 of our work.  Our mystery vocab sentences are due on Thursday. Permission slips for the nature center are due tomorrow and permission slips for Flint are due next Monday.

For morning meeting we had ball toss and statues in the garden.Today we had a math test. Since it is Friday we had buddies.We made decorations for Arden Court.We also have a Spanish test today.in writing we did persuasive letters. we have book clubs in readers work shop. Day 4 for our book clubs is due on Monday.  In word work, we got mystery vocabulary.  The sentences are due on Dec. 13th. The permission slip for the nature center is due on Tuesday and the permission slip for flint is due on the 17th.

Today in math we worked on subtracting thousands and ten thousands. In social studies we had american Indians settling. In writing we did persuasive letters. In Spanish we learned about a day in the life of a Mexican  student our Spanish study guide is due tomorrow and the Spanish test is on Friday. Also in math we have a study guide for are math test on Friday. Book clubs today. we have two tests today vocabulary and spelling. remember to read 30 minutes!

Today was another great day of sharing family cultures, customs, and family history.  We all learned a lot and ate great food! In math, students are working on subtraction with larger values. In writer's workshop, we are continuing with the three elements to a persuasive letter: audience, issue/point of view, and evidence(reasons). Today students had to come up with reasons to persuade their audience of their point of view.  In Science students are beginning a mini research project on food webs, food chains, ecosystems, etc.  They have a few more class periods to complete their group work. What a busy but fun day!

November 27 2018

  In Writers Workshop we worked on two elements in persuasive letters, audience and the issue/point of view. We subtracting big numbers math and we have lesson 13 exit ticket for homework. Student presentations day today in social studies. As are special today we have Spanish. We are doing the second page of our word work notebook and going over the pattern with our teacher again.  The sheet will be taken home today.

November 19th

Today, on this half day, students solved addition word problems in math.  They also began to write an opinion writing on school start times.  Should high school and elementary school students switch start times?  Before morning meeting, students had to sort their spelling words and check with a friend.  The vocabulary sheet is not due until Tuesday, November 27th.  They have plenty of time to complete that assignment.  I look forward to seeing many of you today for conferences!!

Today in math we did  adding big numbers and lesson 12 homework. Read 30 min and we are doing turkey stories in writing.We have half days Monday and Tuesday. Also we have a new word work list tomorrow. No school Wednesday.

Today in math we did adding big numbers. We are actually doing sharing about our cultures on Tuesday and Wednesday after break since we will not have Social Studies next week. In writing we had to take a stand and decide if we agree on certain statements or disagree.  Half days on Monday and Tuesday because there are Parent teacher conferences.

Today after morning meeting, we had Social Studies.  In Social Studies, we read 2 books about Native Americans and the history of the Native people.  In math, we continued learning about adding big numbers.  In writing, we had 45 minutes to write an opinion writing.  During science, Ms. Paige's mom came and cooked with us and shared about her traditions and customs.  We also got back our science test and played a food chain game. Then we had Spanish before going home.

 After we did social study's and for that we did guess which region, state, and city it is.
Then we did math and for math we did rounding to the nearest  place value.
After we did writers work shop and for that we continued writing our small moments. Then we had lunch recess. Then we did Spanish. After we had buddies and we finished a pumpkin story with our 2nd grade buddies. Then we had Readers Workshop and Word Work. We met with Ms. Paige in our groups and sorted our spelling words.

We did an old person's greeting and then we shared. For Social Studies we learned about the five regions of the United States.  In math we did more rounding and estimation. For writers workshop we worked on our Jack the Pumpkin stories. The we had lunch and recess. After that we had Science. For science we had guppies and goldfish.  In readers workshop we read and worked on our classroom charter.  In Spanish we had a Spanish test (sadly). The we went home. Yay!

Today we did for morning meeting  fist bump  and for the activity we did doggy doggy were's your bone.
Then for social study's we wrote down facts . For math we did rounding.
After that we did writers work shop, for writers work shop we did what jack the pumpkin will do next.
Then we had lunch and recess.
We had read aloud then Spanish. After we had word work test. Then we did readers work shop then we went to do bus buddies or pick up jobs.

Today we made up a hand shake for our greeting in morning meeting and for the activity we had squirt and statues in the garden.
For social studies we finished up special purpose maps and checked it. We also voted for our student council and will find out on Monday who we have.
In math, we had place value.
In writing, we made a comic strip to go with our small moment.
In science we had aquatic environments. Then we had buddies and Spanish.

We have homework tonight. Then we had lunch and recess then we had read aloud. after we do readers work shop. We talked about character traits and started writing our letters to Ms. Paige and t.c.o.b.then we did art  then we left. Word work homework is due tomorrow. We will have a Spanish test on Oct. 25th. Reflections is due on Nov. 12 and the student council speeches are going to be tomorrow.

Today in S.S we learned about lines of latitude and longitude.  In writing we shared our writing with the other class.We had no math. We also had buddies today.We reviewed what we have to do for our word work homework.  And for readers workshop, we did silent reading and wrote letters to Ms. Paige about our books.

Today in math we finished our packet of dividing and multiplication and place value. Our homework for math is to finish Lesson 2 Exit ticket.  In readers work shop we read silently for a short time.  We had Mrs. Herbert in our classroom during a lot of readers workshop. In science we are doing isopod update.  In Writing we finished editing our stories. Then we had Media and PE.

Today we had in math NWEA. In writing we  almost  finished typing or stories. Today we got our 2nd grade buddies, and we also did clay monster mugs in art. Today students have some homework to be completed.  In math, students continued to learn about place value.  They have lesson 1 homework to complete for tonight.  In Social Studies, we are beginning our map skills chapter.  They have to complete the birds eye view map of their house.  Since one class is not finished with the Social Studies test from last week, test will be passed back when all students have finished.  Students also have homework in Spanish, if they did not finish the work in class.  It was a busy day of work!!

Friday, September 28th

Today we had a busy afternoon.  We shared our Growth Mindset Presentations with the 3rd graders!  Four groups of 3rd graders saw our presentations. It was a lot of fun.  We also had Media and PE in the afternoon.
In the morning we worked on our rough draft of our writing.  We will begin typing next week.  We also used a place value chart during math as we learned about place value. Have a great weekend!

Today the students had their Social Studies test.  There are a couple of students who need to finish tomorrow and then the test will be handed back next week.  In writing, we talked about adjectives, what are they, what are some examples, etc. After, we had to look in our writing and find places to add adjectives, to be more descriptive.  In math, we talked about patterns in numbers from the Youcubed lessons. Today we also had an author, Marc Tyler Nobleman, present to us some of his work.  It was an amazing assembly!

Wednesday, September 25

Today we had presentations in math and in writing we did proper nouns . Today the special was Spanish. and if you saw your kid's planner we have a test on Thursday and we did a review test for the test on Thursday today. The test is in Social Studies. Also, the first published piece is due next Friday.  If we want to take home our notebooks we can. If we want to order books from the Scholastic order it is due on Friday.

Monday and Tuesday, September 24 and 25th

Yesterday, I was out sick so the students were unable to complete the blog.  Sorry about that.

Today was a very quick day! After music, the students had math and writers workshop.  In math, the students had a quick math sprint with addition and starting talking about base ten and place value.  In writing, students worked on understanding where to place punctuation.  They had to go back into their own writing to make corrections.  Students' first published piece is due next Friday.  Students are welcome to take home their journals to work, if necessary.  They will be typing and revising during class time next week.

In addition, on Thursday of this week, students have a Social Studies test.  We have studied and played different review games to better help the students prepare.  They may continue to use the teachtci.com website for their studying as well.

Today in math we put the finishing touches on our growth mindset project Again. And we also had writers work shop block and we were writing about different types of sentences and then we had lunch and were still reading the book poppy and we also had science again and we were looking at are meal worm and don't worry parents were probably not bringing then home this year. and a other great day of bus buddies jobs.

Today we did an old peoples greeting then we had social studies and got are groups and we did historian and political science. Then in math we continued working on the growth mindset project. then were finishing classroom charter doing the paper that had our words on it and we also did Spanish we learned weather and in reading we're still reading are book poppy and we did great with bus buddies today!And don't for get picture day is tomorrow. And in writing to day we read a book called Wilfrid Gordon McDonald partridge and the the book was about memory five things that people said what memory's were one was funny,some thing from long ago,it's something that make your heart warm something that makes you cry and something precious to you. miss Nancy lost her memory but after the kid brought things that they did together then she got her memory back then the little boy has very happy.   

Wednesday, September 19

Today we did a zombie greeting and for the activity a winking game. After we went to music then we went to math and did a growth mindset project. In social studies we did geography and political science. In science we did meal worms. And the other special was art and were making monster mugs that we can drink out of and were reading a new book and the book was called Poppy. Bus buddies are going good. and picture day is on Friday we also did in writers work shop we wrote conjunction and compound sentences.

Today we did classroom charter. In math we are working on growth mindset projects for the third-graders. In writing we did exclamatory and command sentences. In science we did meal worms. Some of them had turned into beetles. Specials today were P.E. and Media. Today is the second day for the bus buddies. 

Monday, September 17th

Today was the official first day of Bus Buddy jobs!  Students were introduced to their buddies and now know what to do.  Each student has a badge that also identifies them as a bus buddy.  They are responsible for their own badge.  Most have decided that the best place for it is in their backpack.
Students also got reacquainted with Mrs. Herbert, the school counselor. In Social Studies they learned about economist and what they study. In Science they learned a bit more information about meal worms and got the chance to observe them.We are looking forward to another great week!

Friday, September 14th

Today we had a great field trip to Cranbrook Institute of Science!  Students learned a lot about recycling and other ways to keep our planet more clean.  They played a couple of games like Water Jeopardy and learned about the wetlands while seeing and touching live animals. Students also took the Reading NWEA this afternoon.  We will continue the testing soon.

This morning after morning meeting we had music. In music we sang a song called lean forward  and after that we listened to some very old music by Grieg. Next we played on the xylophones. After that we had math in math we looked at a graph and made a graph like it. Then we had writers workshop in writers workshop we kept righting are story. After that we had lunch and recces. then Ms. Paige read from the book Forth Grade Rats . Next we shared parts of our stories. After that we read quietly. Next we had an afternoon meeting. Then we had recces and then we had art. Today we had a good day!

This morning we did an  informal greeting and played a game called zombies. After that we had a very nice lady named Kristina Bilowus  who read us a book about women's independent's. Next we had math in math we did another pattern  with numbers. After that we had writing in writing we learned more about what is in a sentence and what is not after that we  had lunch and recess.Next we had media in media we read a book called  the incredible book eating boy and we checked out some books. After that we had gym in gym we did a warm up and then we had the pretest for the paser test. Then we packed out and left. i think we had a great day!

This morning we made up our a hand shake with a friend and did that for our greeting then we played a game called squirt. In social studies we learned what an economist does. Next we had math and in math we learned different patters with numbers.Then in writers workshop we learned what a sentence has to have in it we worked a little on our stories and finished decorating our notebooks. After lunch and recces we had science in science we got our meal worms and organized our science notebook.After science we had  a read aloud and read 4th grade rats. After we had a recces and  we had Spanish. I think that we had a great day!

This Monday we had sharing in the morning meeting and did a silly greeting. We also did social studies for the first time. In social studies we learned about why school is important when you grow up. In math we learned about area and how to equally divide a piece of paper into fourths. In writing we continued on writing our story's and started decorate our writers notebook. After lunch recces we had Spanish and in Spanish we played a game about deciding from two different things in Spanish  and made our own in Spanish.After Spanish we did a read aloud  we read the book called 4th grade rats.After the read aloud we read interdependently  and  wrote on a sticky note the idea of the book.We had a short recces and packed up to leave. I think we had a great day!

Today our visiting principal, Mrs. Hitchcock, spoke to the students at an assembly in the morning.  Students got a chance to get to know about her and her family.  She also reviewed our touchstones and expectations for all students. 

The students were also very excited to be given a form about bus buddies.  I spoke with all 4th graders about this experience and most 4th graders took a form home so that they can speak with you about this opportunity.  They are due back no later than Wednesday, September 12th.  Students will find out what job they have on Friday the 14th and they will begin their job on Monday, September 17th.

Dear Families,

Today was our first Math/ Writer's Workshop switch!  It was great seeing a number of students excited about writing!! I am asking all students to bring materials such as pictures and stickers to decorate their notebooks for Monday.  These items also help students with ideas about what to write.  Happy Writing!

We also had our first Media day.  This year 4th graders are able to check out 3 library books.  Talk about a lot of reading.  Today, I saw many reading minutes recorded in their planners. Keep up the great work!  Our next media day is on next Wednesday.

First Full Day of School!

What a great first full day of school!  Everybody seems to be in the swing of things, running smoothly.
During math time, students worked on Sudoku puzzles to stretch their brains.  Many wanted to take an additional sheet home to continue the fun!!
Students also took home a family letter with an attached permission slip regarding our upcoming field trip to Cranbrook Institute of Arts.

Dear Students and  Families,

Welcome to 4th grade!!!

I am really excited to be sharing information with you on blogger.  In previous years, we have blogged on an edublog account.  The blog is primarily for planner information.  Each day, the students and I write in our planners to go over what was covered in class and any homework that needs to be completed, along with projects, field trips and other pertinent information.

There will still be regular emails that I will send out regarding the curriculum, homework, and events taking place in the school.  This is just another vehicle in which to receive information.  

I know we will have a great year!!  I am excited to be your child's 4th grade teacher and embark on a wonderful journey through 4th grade!!
