Friday, September 28th

Today we had a busy afternoon.  We shared our Growth Mindset Presentations with the 3rd graders!  Four groups of 3rd graders saw our presentations. It was a lot of fun.  We also had Media and PE in the afternoon.
In the morning we worked on our rough draft of our writing.  We will begin typing next week.  We also used a place value chart during math as we learned about place value. Have a great weekend!

Today the students had their Social Studies test.  There are a couple of students who need to finish tomorrow and then the test will be handed back next week.  In writing, we talked about adjectives, what are they, what are some examples, etc. After, we had to look in our writing and find places to add adjectives, to be more descriptive.  In math, we talked about patterns in numbers from the Youcubed lessons. Today we also had an author, Marc Tyler Nobleman, present to us some of his work.  It was an amazing assembly!

Wednesday, September 25

Today we had presentations in math and in writing we did proper nouns . Today the special was Spanish. and if you saw your kid's planner we have a test on Thursday and we did a review test for the test on Thursday today. The test is in Social Studies. Also, the first published piece is due next Friday.  If we want to take home our notebooks we can. If we want to order books from the Scholastic order it is due on Friday.

Monday and Tuesday, September 24 and 25th

Yesterday, I was out sick so the students were unable to complete the blog.  Sorry about that.

Today was a very quick day! After music, the students had math and writers workshop.  In math, the students had a quick math sprint with addition and starting talking about base ten and place value.  In writing, students worked on understanding where to place punctuation.  They had to go back into their own writing to make corrections.  Students' first published piece is due next Friday.  Students are welcome to take home their journals to work, if necessary.  They will be typing and revising during class time next week.

In addition, on Thursday of this week, students have a Social Studies test.  We have studied and played different review games to better help the students prepare.  They may continue to use the teachtci.com website for their studying as well.

Today in math we put the finishing touches on our growth mindset project Again. And we also had writers work shop block and we were writing about different types of sentences and then we had lunch and were still reading the book poppy and we also had science again and we were looking at are meal worm and don't worry parents were probably not bringing then home this year. and a other great day of bus buddies jobs.

Today we did an old peoples greeting then we had social studies and got are groups and we did historian and political science. Then in math we continued working on the growth mindset project. then were finishing classroom charter doing the paper that had our words on it and we also did Spanish we learned weather and in reading we're still reading are book poppy and we did great with bus buddies today!And don't for get picture day is tomorrow. And in writing to day we read a book called Wilfrid Gordon McDonald partridge and the the book was about memory five things that people said what memory's were one was funny,some thing from long ago,it's something that make your heart warm something that makes you cry and something precious to you. miss Nancy lost her memory but after the kid brought things that they did together then she got her memory back then the little boy has very happy.

Today we did a zombie greeting and for the activity a winking game. After we went to music then we went to math and did a growth mindset project. In social studies we did geography and political science. In science we did meal worms. And the other special was art and were making monster mugs that we can drink out of and were reading a new book and the book was called Poppy. Bus buddies are going good. and picture day is on Friday we also did in writers work shop we wrote conjunction and compound sentences.

Today we did classroom charter. In math we are working on growth mindset projects for the third-graders. In writing we did exclamatory and command sentences. In science we did meal worms. Some of them had turned into beetles. Specials today were P.E. and Media. Today is the second day for the bus buddies.

Monday, September 17th

Today was the official first day of Bus Buddy jobs!  Students were introduced to their buddies and now know what to do.  Each student has a badge that also identifies them as a bus buddy.  They are responsible for their own badge.  Most have decided that the best place for it is in their backpack.
Students also got reacquainted with Mrs. Herbert, the school counselor. In Social Studies they learned about economist and what they study. In Science they learned a bit more information about meal worms and got the chance to observe them.We are looking forward to another great week!

Friday, September 14th

Today we had a great field trip to Cranbrook Institute of Science!  Students learned a lot about recycling and other ways to keep our planet more clean.  They played a couple of games like Water Jeopardy and learned about the wetlands while seeing and touching live animals. Students also took the Reading NWEA this afternoon.  We will continue the testing soon.

This morning after morning meeting we had music. In music we sang a song called lean forward  and after that we listened to some very old music by Grieg. Next we played on the xylophones. After that we had math in math we looked at a graph and made a graph like it. Then we had writers workshop in writers workshop we kept righting are story. After that we had lunch and recces. then Ms. Paige read from the book Forth Grade Rats . Next we shared parts of our stories. After that we read quietly. Next we had an afternoon meeting. Then we had recces and then we had art. Today we had a good day!

This morning we did an  informal greeting and played a game called zombies. After that we had a very nice lady named Kristina Bilowus  who read us a book about women's independent's. Next we had math in math we did another pattern  with numbers. After that we had writing in writing we learned more about what is in a sentence and what is not after that we  had lunch and recess.Next we had media in media we read a book called  the incredible book eating boy and we checked out some books. After that we had gym in gym we did a warm up and then we had the pretest for the paser test. Then we packed out and left. i think we had a great day!

This morning we made up our a hand shake with a friend and did that for our greeting then we played a game called squirt. In social studies we learned what an economist does. Next we had math and in math we learned different patters with numbers.Then in writers workshop we learned what a sentence has to have in it we worked a little on our stories and finished decorating our notebooks. After lunch and recces we had science in science we got our meal worms and organized our science notebook.After science we had  a read aloud and read 4th grade rats. After we had a recces and  we had Spanish. I think that we had a great day!

This Monday we had sharing in the morning meeting and did a silly greeting. We also did social studies for the first time. In social studies we learned about why school is important when you grow up. In math we learned about area and how to equally divide a piece of paper into fourths. In writing we continued on writing our story's and started decorate our writers notebook. After lunch recces we had Spanish and in Spanish we played a game about deciding from two different things in Spanish  and made our own in Spanish.After Spanish we did a read aloud  we read the book called 4th grade rats.After the read aloud we read interdependently  and  wrote on a sticky note the idea of the book.We had a short recces and packed up to leave. I think we had a great day!

Today our visiting principal, Mrs. Hitchcock, spoke to the students at an assembly in the morning.  Students got a chance to get to know about her and her family.  She also reviewed our touchstones and expectations for all students. 

The students were also very excited to be given a form about bus buddies.  I spoke with all 4th graders about this experience and most 4th graders took a form home so that they can speak with you about this opportunity.  They are due back no later than Wednesday, September 12th.  Students will find out what job they have on Friday the 14th and they will begin their job on Monday, September 17th.

Dear Families,

Today was our first Math/ Writer's Workshop switch!  It was great seeing a number of students excited about writing!! I am asking all students to bring materials such as pictures and stickers to decorate their notebooks for Monday.  These items also help students with ideas about what to write.  Happy Writing!

We also had our first Media day.  This year 4th graders are able to check out 3 library books.  Talk about a lot of reading.  Today, I saw many reading minutes recorded in their planners. Keep up the great work!  Our next media day is on next Wednesday.

First Full Day of School!

What a great first full day of school!  Everybody seems to be in the swing of things, running smoothly.
During math time, students worked on Sudoku puzzles to stretch their brains.  Many wanted to take an additional sheet home to continue the fun!!
Students also took home a family letter with an attached permission slip regarding our upcoming field trip to Cranbrook Institute of Arts.
